Kids' Park

This proposed park area is focused on children's activities and entertainment. Attractive and shaded age appropriate activity
centers are adjacent to children's gardens, picnic areas, and tree-lined paths. Parking is a short walk away from all activity
centers.
The children's garden area might include: a nature garden, a garden with a learning tree, a sensory garden and a natural play
area for exploratory learning and play within a naturalistic setting. All gardens have tree-lined paths, and are oriented to take
advantage of the prevailing winds.
The Children's Activity Center might include food concessions, classroom space, crafts arcas, indoor play areas, indoor board and
table game areas, a climbing wall, administrative offices and a first aid center.
Both 2 - 5 and 5 - 12 year old play areas are age appropriate zones for interactive play. Picnic areas within the play areas are
shaded by large trees and connected to all other spaces. Older children will enjoy time at the skate park. All play areas are a
short walk from the parking area.
Water play areas could include a large shallow pool with slides, a deeper 'swimming hole' with swim platform and deck, and a
splash play area with interactive water features. Buildings adjacent to the water play areas provide shaded gathering space,
changing rooms, and covered picnic space. Water spills over a rock waterfall into the swimming hole, cooling the air and
delighting the senses. A grove of trees shades the swimming platform.
Shaded picnic areas and gathering spaces are scattered throughout. Design features include bioswales to control runoff, pervious
paving, native plantings, use of the prevailing wind for ventilation and shaded walkways.
